Beef Stew in Your Slow Cooker

  1.       2 tbsp olive oil
  2.       2 pounds beef, cut into medium sized cubes
  3.       ¼ cup flour
  4.       Salt and pepper to taste
  5.       2 large potatoes cut into cubes
  6.       4 carrots cut into large pieces
  7.       1 medium onion, chopped
  8.       2 cloves of garlic, chopped
  9.       1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  10.   1 tsp paprika
  11.   1 bay leaf
  12.   1 stalk celery, chopped
  13.   2 cups beef broth
  14.   1 tablespoons tomato paste

This recipe yields enough to feed 8 persons.


  1.       Season the beef cubes with salt and pepper.
  2.       Heat oil in a large pan and fry beef in it for about 2 to 3 minutes or until it becomes brown from the outside.

  4.       Now add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, paprika and the bay leaf.
  5.       Add salt and pepper. Taste the broth and adjust the seasonings as necessary.
  6.       Stir the ingredients until they combine evenly. Use a wooden spoon so as not to damage the walls or base of the slow cooker.
  7.       Cover the lid and turn on the slow cooker.
  8.        If you are cooking on the low setting, leave if to cook for 7 to 8 hours. If using the high setting, it will take 3 to 4 hours to cook.
  9.       After this time, take out ½ cup broth from the slow cooker and mix it well with flour. Transfer it back to the slow cooker and mix it well with a wooden spoon.
  10.   Place the lid over it and let it cook for another 30 minutes or until the broth thickens.
  11.   Your beef stew is now ready to be served. Transfer the stew to individual serving bowls and serve it with mashed potatoes, plain rice, noodles or bread. You can be creative and think of other unique combinations as well.

  1.       Onions, 2 (cut in cubes)

  4.       Butter, 2 tbsp
  5.       Flour, 2 tbsp
  6.       Chicken broth, 3 cups
  7.       Milk, ¾ cup
  8.       Cooked chicken breast, 175 gram
  9.       Cream, ½ cup
  10.   Salt and pepper to taste


  1.    Place a large pot in the stove and turn the flame on.
  2.    Add butter and allow it to melt.
  3.    Now transfer onion, potatoes and carrot to the pot and cook for 5 to 10 minutes or until the vegetables become soft. The onion should become translucent but none of the vegetables should brown.
  4.    Transfer flour to your ingredients and cook on low flame while stirring the ingredients continuously. Flour will form lumps if you do not stir.
  5.    Now add the chicken broth and milk while stirring continuously.
  6.    Once you’ve added all the broth and milk, let the mixture come to boil. Stir at intervals.
  7.    Now add the cooked chicken to the mixture and let it cook for a further 10 minutes.
  8.    If you have an immersion blender, you can immerse it in the pot directly and puree the mixture until smooth.   10.   Stir it so that the soup heats evenly.
  11.   Turn the flame off. Now add cream and serve immediately.
